Physician Specialist – Urology

GENERAL SUMMARY: Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (OVMC) invites applications for the position of Physician Specialist in Urology, Department of Surgery. Reporting to the OVMC Chief of Surgery, this position will provide clinical care, vision, leadership, and strategic direction to achieve the department’s clinical, educational, and academic mission within a large urban academic safety-net hospital that is part of an integrated Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS). The candidate will hold an academic appointment as urologist at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The candidate’s responsibilities will include all aspects of helping to manage OVMC’s urologic population. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a talented group of faculty and trainees dedicated to providing state-of-the-art surgical care to a diverse patient population and reducing health disparities amongst the underserved. This highly collaborative environment supports a dynamic graduate medical education program with a rich history of training many clinical, academic, and national thought leaders. Candidates must have a strong academic background with a track record of clinical excellence, leadership, collaboration, data-driven management, and innovation. Additional requirements include eligibility for California medical licensure, as well as the ability to successfully collaborate across disciplines and work effectively within a large and complex health delivery system. 

 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

  • Serve as a model academic physician for faculty, trainees, and staff in terms of professional and ethical behavior, clinical/research/educational/management productivity, and as a collaborator or partner with colleagues, other departments, and other facilities 
  • Help recruit, hire, and retain effective faculty, trainees, and staff to fulfill urology’s clinical and academic responsibilities 
  • Help identify the needs of the broader urologic population, and establish clinical care frameworks to meet those needs 
  • Identify surgical avenues for improvement in urology, and work in an interdisciplinary fashion to meet those needs 
  • Participate in training the next generation of model urologists 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or Osteopathy 
  • Completed an ACGME-accredited Urology residency program 
  • Certified, in the process of, or eligible for certification by the American Board of Urology (ABU) 
  • Excellence in providing urological care 
  • Commitment to teaching, scholarship, quality improvement, and creative academic output 

 DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Commitment to working in government or non-profit environment serving a diverse, medically-underserved population 
  • Experience in implementing quality improvement projects in underserved populations 
  • Experience in endoscopic, open, and laparoscopic/robotic surgery 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Creative, forward-thinking 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative/team-oriented environment 

JOB APPOINTMENT OPTIONS:  

  • To be considered as a lateral transfer, candidate must be a current, permanent employee who holds the payroll title of Physician Specialist-Surgery.  
  • To be considered as a new hire, candidates must be reachable on the DHS certification list.
