HUMC Medical Director of Utilization Management

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (HUMC) invites applications for the position of Medical Director of Utilization Management (UM Medical Director).

Reporting to the HUMC Chief Executive Officer, the UM Medical Director supervises the daily operations of the Utilization Management Department and the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program and oversees the use of medical center operational resources for sponsored research. The UM Medical Director has direct line supervisorial responsibility of over 55 full time employees, including UM nursing director, supervisors, nurses, and clerical staff. As a member of Medical Administration, the UM Medical Director will collaborate with clinical department leadership on ensuring timely delivery of care, finding solutions for delays in care, enabling safe care transitions, and driving overall financial sustainability of HUMC.

Candidates must have demonstrated experience in clinical operations and a commitment to the mission of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, as well as the ability to successfully collaborate across disciplines to work effectively within a large and complex health delivery system. The UM Medical Director works closely with Hospital Administration, Medical Administration, department chairs, service directors, and Department of Health Services (DHS) counterparts including the DHS System Medical Director of Utilization Management.

Located in the beautiful South area of Los Angeles, HUMC enjoys a longstanding partnership with The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation on campus, in addition to a strong affiliation with UCLA-Geffen School of Medicine. All 12 of the clinical departments have high quality residency programs, and many offer fellowships. HUMC has a tradition of providing exceptional graduate and undergraduate medical education, advancing knowledge, and extending comprehensive clinical care to a large, underserved population.

The hospital is in the city of Torrance, a city in the Southwestern region of LA County. Its neighboring cities are Lomita, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, and Palos Verdes. The city has over 30 city parks and includes a total of 1.5 miles of beaches on the Pacific Ocean. It has an estimated population of over 145,000 residents.

Candidates for UM Medical Director should meet the requirements and qualifications for the Los Angeles County Physician Specialist position in their respective specialty. In addition, candidates must be board-certified and eligible for academic appointment at UCLA-Geffen School of Medicine.
