The Primary Care/Urgent Care Clinics at H. Claude Hudson Comprehensive Health Center and Roybal Comprehensive Health Center is seeking a highly qualified Senior Physician.

Position:

The Senior Physician provides clinical, operational, and professional oversight for urgent care and specialty care services within the Metro and East LA Health Care Groups.

This role ensures high-quality, equitable, and evidence-based care delivery while supporting team-based practice, regulatory compliance, provider performance, and continuous improvement across high-volume clinical settings. The Senior Physician serves as a clinical leader, mentor, and liaison between frontline clinicians and system leadership.

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

Clinical Oversight & Quality of Care

  • Provide medical oversight for urgent care and designated specialty services, ensuring care meets clinical standards, scope-of-practice requirements, and regulatory expectations
  • Support development, implementation, and adherence to clinical protocols, pathways, and standing orders
  • Review clinical outcomes, patient safety events, and quality metrics; lead or participate in root cause analyses and improvement initiatives
  • Ensure appropriate supervision of advanced practice clinicians (NPs/PAs) in accordance with state law, organizational policy, and accreditation standards

Provider Supervision & Professional Development

  • Serve as supervising physician of record for assigned clinicians
  • Conduct or support chart reviews, peer review, and clinical performance evaluations
  • Apply data transparently to support coaching and performance accountability while reinforcing a just culture
  • Provide real-time consultation and escalation support for complex or high-risk cases
  • Mentor and coach clinicians to promote clinical excellence, professional growth, and retention
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new providers

Operational & Systems Leadership

  • Partner with operations leaders to optimize patient flow, access, throughput, and care coordination across urgent and specialty services
  • Support staffing models, coverage planning, and escalation pathways for high-volume or surge scenarios
  • Collaborate with primary care, emergency departments, specialty services, and community partners to ensure continuity of care
  • Contribute clinical leadership to new service development, scope expansion, and integration of specialty care within urgent care settings
  • Leverage performance dashboards and EHR-derived analytics to align productivity, access, and quality goals

Equity, Safety-Net, & Population Health Focus

  • Champion equitable, culturally responsive care for underserved and vulnerable populations
  • Support trauma-informed, language-accessible, and patient-centered care models
  • Promote appropriate use of resources while balancing access, quality, and cost.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including licensure, supervision, and documentation standards
  • Participate in medical staff activities, committees, and quality governance as assigned
  • Support accreditation, audits, and external reviews related to urgent care and specialty services

 Minimum Requirements:

  • MD or DO with active, unrestricted license in California.
  • Board-certified in a relevant specialty (e.g. Family Medicine, Internal Medicine)
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience, including urgent care or high-acuity ambulatory settings
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or collaborating with advanced practice clinicians
  • Strong knowledge of ambulatory quality, safety, and regulatory requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a safety-net or public health system
  • Experience with team-based care models and integrated specialty services
  • Familiarity with value-based care, quality improvement methodologies, and population health strategies
  • Bilingual or experience working with diverse, multilingual populations

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Combination of administrative and clinical time (clinical percentage to be defined)
  • May require coverage across multiple sites or service lines
  • Occasional after-hours consultation or on-call responsibilities
