Junior Faculty

For the Junior Faculty Teaching Position, we are recruiting a junior faculty member for a one-year mentored experience in resident supervision and teaching. The focus for the year will be to build the faculty member’s clinical teaching skills, plan and deliver educational sessions in the residency program, guide residents through board studying, and contribute to mentorship of residents in career planning and medical education. For junior faculty interested in developing their career in academic medicine, this position provides the perfect opportunity to develop skills while practicing clinically in a mission-driven institution.  

There will be protected time to study for boards and pursue other educational programs during the year, if desired. 

This position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. 

Salary: $140,969.76

Teaching role: 

  • Lead 30 min Friday afternoon Board review session with the residents 
  • Give 6 lectures/teaching sessions during Friday afternoon didactics during the year (separate from weekly Board review sessions) 
  • Assist Associate Program Director in scheduling faculty for Friday afternoon didactics throughout the year 
  • One half-day per month on average for Pediatric Clinical Skills with UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine first year medical students 
  • Observe residents on rounds or clinic and give feedback 
  • Additional menu of options for participation in departmental resident mentoring activities: choose from at least one of the following: resident capstone clinical reasoning grand rounds (Clinicopathologic Conference), M&M, QI, Residents as Teachers, Case Conference, leading Morning Report 1-2x/week 

 

Clinical role: 

  • 12 weeks (Ward and Nursery, including deliveries), 16 nights (NICU) 
  • During all daytime service weeks, teaching service with residents and medical students 
  • During night shifts, teaching opportunities with intern or senior residents 

 

In addition to the protected time for teaching, we are supportive of arranging your schedule for: 

  • Studying for boards 
  • If desired, participating in UCLA Medical Education Fellowship (requires separate application, acceptance not guaranteed), or outside programs such as a lactation training program 

 

Other benefits: 

  • Funding to go to Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) or another educational conference 
  • Mentorship meetings every other month to develop medical education skills and track your progress 
  • Ability to consult the residency leadership team for resident mentoring and advising questions 
  • Mentorship from the residency leadership team in development teaching modules as needed
