GENERAL SUMMARY: Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (OVMC), a public teaching hospital affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, invites applications for a full-time Physician Specialist in the Department of Pediatrics  for its Pediatric Hub Clinic. Reporting to the Medical Director of the Pediatric Hub Clinic, this position provides population-specific, trauma-informed medical care consistent with pediatric best practices to DCFS-involved children, with particular emphasis on the following groups: children and teens in foster or kinship care, young adults aging out of foster care, pregnant and parenting adolescents including their children, incarcerated youth and young adults, LGBTQIA youth, commercially sexually exploited children (CSEC), and young adults with chronic diseases of childhood. The candidate will also hold an academic appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Essential duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides routine primary care consistent with pediatric best practices through initial medical exams, medical clearances, well-child visits, follow-up visits, and sick visits.
  • Performs specialized medical evaluations for child physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect, and prepares timely medical reports for investigating DCFS social workers.
  • Coordinates multispecialty care including appropriate referrals to subspecialists and responds to members of multidisciplinary patient care team in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with DCFS social workers, community advocates, teachers, therapists, DMH and DPH staff, and other subspecialists to coordinate care, maintain continuity, and generally advocate for patients.
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures consistent with the scope of general pediatrics. 
  • Provides consultation for Nurse Practitioners on general pediatric questions. 
  • Participates in clinical quality improvement projects based on available empirical data. 
  • Participates in continuing education through multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and peer review.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or Osteopathy
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in pediatrics
  • Board-certified or board-eligible as determined by the respective specialty board
  • California Medical License
  • Strong commitment to education with an academic background suitable for faculty appointment at DGSOM
  • Excellent clinical, teaching, and interpersonal skills

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in government or non-profit environment serving a diverse, medically-underserved population
  • Creative, forward-looking thinker
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative/team-oriented environment
  • Fluency in English and Spanish desired but not required
  • Ability to interact effectively with various levels of staff
