Physician Specialist, Internal Medicine – Board Certified in Allergy and Immunology

MLK OPC is in the heart of SPA 6 in South Los Angeles and is part of DHS’s Ambulatory Care Network (ACN). Our patients are mostly African-American and Latino/a/x, many with Spanish as a preferred language. As the largest facility within the ACN, MLK OPC is a high-volume, multispecialty outpatient center, providing more than 150,000 visits annually. In addition to clinical care, MLK OPC maintains a focus on continuous quality improvement, social determinants of health, community partnerships, and health equity.

MLK OPC is currently recruiting an allergist to provide clinic visits and allergen testing. This position will be a joint hire with Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a high-volume Level 1 trauma center, and an academic teaching hospital, affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. There are ample opportunities for resident education, multidisciplinary collaboration and clinical research.  The hospital is also affiliated with the Lundquist Institute, a major independent research center.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provide direct patient care at MLKOPC for general allergy and immunology, consultation, and diagnostic evaluation
Manage serious conditions including severe allergy/anaphylaxis, drug desensitization therapy, angioedema, and other severe or refractory allergy specialty conditions.
Perform required tests, including prick and patch allergen testing
Establish therapies, develop treatment plans, and educate patients based on best practices
Prescribe medications, including antihistamines, antibiotics, and biologics
Monitor and track patient’s therapeutic treatment plans
Evaluate and interpret laboratory and diagnostic reports
Complete documentation and paperwork for patients as needed
Provide direct communication with patients by telephone or email as appropriate
Coordinate care for individual patients with partnering organizations both within DHS and with the MLK Community Hospital
One day per week at HUCLA to provide clinical services
Travel to other Ambulatory Care Network sites as needed to provide training and clinical services
Provide telehealth services for patients with allergy and immunology needs for patients across the DHS network
Serve as eConsult Allergy Specialty Reviewer to provide guidance to providers seeking allergy and immunological specialized expertise and to appoint patients in a prioritized manner to available appointments
Participate in training and mentorship of medical students and residents as needed
Coordinate care for individual patients with partnering organizations both within DHS and with the MLK Community Hospital
Work collaboratively with other DHS allergists to create a work group and to establish Expected Practices with respect to common conditions in allergy and immunology

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of a residency in a specialty recognized by the ACGME and a fellowship in Allergy & Immunology
Board certified or Board Eligible in Allergy & Immunology

LICENSE:

California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.

REPORTING:

The allergist reports to the lead for specialty services at MLK OPC.

LOCATION:

MLK OPC is located at 1670 E. 120th street LA, CA 90059. The center is located in the unincorporated city of Willowbrook. It is also home to the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. The population of the area is estimated at 35,983 residents. It has a major Metro Rail Station, which serves many bus routes by LA Metro. The area has many parks, including Enterprise County Park and Athens Park.
