Physician Specialist, Dermatology
MLK OPC is in the heart of SPA 6 in South Los Angeles and is part of DHS’s Ambulatory Care Network (ACN). Our patients are mostly African-American and Latino/a/x, many with Spanish as a preferred language. As the largest facility within the ACN, MLK OPC, is a high-volume, multispecialty outpatient center, providing more than 150,000 visits annually. In addition to clinical care, MLK OPC maintains a focus on continuous quality improvement, social determinants of health, community partnerships, and health equity.
MLK OPC is currently recruiting a dermatologist to provide clinic visits, procedures, laser treatments, and phototherapy. This position will be a joint hire with Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, a high-volume Level 1 trauma center, and an academic teaching hospital, affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. There are ample opportunities for resident education, multidisciplinary collaboration and clinical research. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Treat the breadth of all general dermatology, including but not limited to, complex medical dermatology, inpatient consultative dermatology, oncodermatology, surgery, pediatrics including genodermatoses, autoimmune conditions including those requiring systemic
therapies, and neurodermatoses
• Remove disfiguring tattoos that can prohibit reentry to civic life
• Treat cosmetically disfiguring diseases
• Perform in-office procedures including biopsy, laser therapy, tissue repair, and phototherapies.
• Provide continuity of care for patients with chronic skin conditions requiring systemic medications and/or biologic therapy for medication monitoring
• Provide eConsult review with primary care providers to dialog about triage requests to provide recommendations and plan for co-management
• Participate in dermatology work group meetings, skin tumor board
• Lead or collaborate on quality improvement projects to enhance dermatology care, patient safety, and clinical outcomes within the hospital or community setting
• Participate in training and mentorship for residents, medical students, and high school student volunteers
• Lead or participate in dermatology staff meetings at MLK, participate in dermatology department meetings at HUCLA, Tumor Board meetings at HUCLA, and other educational, quality, and operational meetings at the direction of DHS lead for dermatology and MLK OPC
lead for specialty care
• One day per week at HUCLA dermatology to provide clinical services and didactic lectures for resident and medical student teaching
• Participation in HUCLA residency program selection process
• 2-4 weeks per year weeknight direct patient coverage for HUCLA inpatient medical services and one weekend per month
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Completion of a residency in dermatology approved by the ACGME
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Dermatology
LICENSE:
• California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
REPORTING:
The dermatologist reports to the lead for specialty services at MLK OPC.
LOCATION:
MLK OPC is located at 1670 E. 120th street LA, CA 90059. The center is located in the unincorporated city of Willowbrook. It is also home to the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. The population of the area is estimated at 35,983 residents. It has a major Metro Rail Station, which serves many bus routes by LA Metro. The area has many parks, including Enterprise County Park and Athens Park.
