Patient Safety Officer (Physician Specialist)

GENERAL SUMMARY: Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (OVMC) is seeking a Physician Specialist to serve as Patient Safety Officer. OVMC is a Los Angeles County facility within the Department of Health Services (DHS) and a major teaching hospital for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. We are dedicated to caring for a medically underserved community and patients with limited access to healthcare. Candidates must demonstrate excellent clinical and interpersonal skills, and contribute to an academic, energetic, and creative multidisciplinary faculty.  

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Ensure hospital-wide compliance with Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals 

• Lead and set facility-wide strategies for various DHS and facility-specific patient safety activities and initiatives (Leapfrog, CMS Star Rating, TeamSTEPPS, etc.) 

• Present safety data to facility leadership and committees 

• Conduct high-level audits, special studies, and critical reviews of medical records, clinical practices, and procedures. 

• Review Patient Safety Indicator (PSI) cases alongside subspecialty subject matter experts  

• Participate in continuous readiness for regulatory visits or inquiries regarding patient safety activities  

• Lead the clinical Root Cause Analysis process in partnership with Risk Management Team 

• Perform other duties as assigned 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 

• 5 years of post-graduate clinical experience 

• Excellent leadership and organizational skills 

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills 

• Comfortable with public speaking and conducting education for both small and large groups 

• Well-developed critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail 

• Proficient in the use of computer applications [ORCHID, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)] 

• Self-motivated, able to work independently as well as collaboratively with others 

• Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously 

• Background/experience in Patient Safety and Quality Improvement
