(DGSOM) at UCLA. The Vice Chair will be appointed as a non-tenured faculty member in the

Department of Radiology at the DGSOM. A successful candidate should merit appointment at

the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. HUMC has a longstanding partnership with The

Lundquist Institute, an independent non-profit 501c3 research institute providing access to state-

of-the-art research facilities and resources. Compensation is provided by Los Angeles County

with an excellent benefits package.

Description:

The Vice Chair of Operations (VCO) will serve as a key leader in the Department of Radiology,

responsible for optimizing clinical operations in alignment with the Department’s mission and

strategic vision. This role requires an accomplished radiologist with demonstrated expertise in

clinical operations, workflow optimization, and team leadership.

The VCO will oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the Department—including all

divisions of diagnostic radiology—and will collaborate closely with the Chair, Division Chiefs,

Residency and Fellowship Program Directors, and hospital administration to ensure excellence in

patient care, education, and operational performance.

For their clinical responsibilities, the Vice Chair of Operations (VCO) will hold an active

appointment within one of the Department’s diagnostic radiology divisions, aligned with the

candidate’s subspecialty expertise and preferred practice area.

Preferred clinical practice areas include Abdominal Imaging or Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular

Imaging.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Operational Leadership: Oversee and optimize all aspects of clinical operations within

the Department, including physician staffing, scheduling, workflow management, and

resource allocation.

• Clinical Excellence: Ensure the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered

radiologic care across all subspecialties.

• Collaboration: Foster strong interdisciplinary relationships among radiologists,

technologists, nurses, administrative staff, and referring physicians to support a cohesive

clinical environment.

• Education and Mentorship: Provide dedicated teaching and mentorship to residents and

fellows, integrating educational priorities with operational excellence.

• Strategic Development: Collaborate with departmental and hospital leadership to

implement initiatives that enhance clinical productivity, quality, and innovation.

• Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for Division Chiefs and Program

Directors on clinical operational issues.

• Quality and Safety: Drive quality improvement initiatives and promote a culture of safety

and continuous improvement.

Clinical Service Areas:

The VCO will support the operational excellence of all radiology subspecialties, including:

• Abdominal (Body) Imaging

• Emergency Radiology

• Neuroradiology

• Nuclear Medicine

• Breast Imaging

• Musculoskeletal Imaging

• Pediatric Imaging

With anticipated departmental and system-wide growth, the VCO will play a pivotal role in

shaping Harbor-UCLA Radiology into a regional, national, and international leader in radiology.

Minimum Qualifications:

• MD or equivalent degree

• American Board of Radiology certification in Diagnostic Radiology

• Fellowship training

• Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of California

• Demonstrated experience in clinical operations, quality improvement, and/or process

optimization

Experience and Attributes:

• Proven leadership in radiology, with a strong record of clinical and operational

achievements

• Track record of mentoring trainees and junior faculty

• Ability to foster collaboration and teamwork across diverse clinical and administrative

groups

• Commitment to the Department’s culture of collaboration and mutual support

• Courage and integrity to implement change and uphold departmental values

• Active participation in professional societies, with leadership or committee experience

preferred
