DHS providers who work in Mental Health-Substance Use Disorder Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) facilities, are eligible to apply.

Eligible Sites include: Edward Roybal CHC, High Desert Regional HC, Hubert Humphrey CHC, Martin Luther King Jr. Outpatient Center, South Valley HC, and Star Clinic. Sites are subject to change — please verify site eligibility at time of submission.

LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM:

Award: NHSC offers two levels of loan repayment awards:
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:

Intended for: Primary Care Physician (MD or DO), Dentist (DDS or DMD), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Certified Nurse-Midwife, Primary Care Physician Assistant (PA)

STUDENTS TO SERVICE LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM:

Medical students in their final year of school are eligible to receive loan repayment assistance in return for working in a HPSAs for at least 3 years.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF)

PROGRAM INFORMATION:
Under the PSLF program, borrowers may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance of their Direct Loans after they have made 120 qualifying payments (only payments made after October 1, 2007 qualify) on those loans while employed full-time by certain public service employers.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Work full-time (30+ hours a week) in a public service job. This program begins its first funds disbursement in October 2017; however, you may submit the Employment Certification Form (ECF) annually while you are working to fulfill the requirements for the PSLF.

L.A. Care - Elevating the Safety Net Initiative

PROGRAM INFORMATION:
The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) in partnership with Physicians for a Healthy California (PHC) created CalHealthCares, which aims to improve access to care for low-income patients by creating economic incentives for physicians to provide care to Medi-Cal beneficiaries. CalHealthCares provides loan repayment in exchange for a service commitment to Medi-Cal and underserved patients.
