Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician Specialist
Full-time Pediatric Infectious Diseases specialist to join the Department of Pediatrics at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, a large academic health center located in southern Los Angeles County. Harbor-UCLA has a 28-bed general pediatric unit, 10-bed PICU, Level III NICU, a pediatric emergency department, and the full range of pediatric subspecialties. We serve over 1.5 million individuals including the underserved in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego County as ours is the first county hospital north of the Mexico border. Harbor is located 15 minutes from several Pacific Ocean beach communities.
The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases currently includes two full-time senior faculty, six part-time faculty, a nurse, and administrative support. We have maintained a Fellowship training program for >50 years. Candidates must have an MD/DO degree and be BC/BE in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Faculty appointment is with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Harbor-UCLA is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. This position offers salary through the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (LAC DHS) and a generous benefits program.
Clinical Service: Our southern California location provides exposure to a variety of immigrant and throughtraveler populations in the LAC DHS, which sustains our long history of serving the underserved. Harbor is the only level I pediatric and adult trauma center in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. The department includes a 26-bed pediatric and adolescent ward, 10-bed PICU, 10-bed Level 3 NICU, and a large outpatient patient population. Our division works in all areas of infectious diseases except for immediate peri-transplant care.
Teaching/Education: Active contribution to the educational mission of the Division is expected, including activity with fellows, residents, medical students and pharmacy students. Our academic opportunities include a large number of divisional and departmental conferences and a variety of lecture series for trainees at all levels. There is also “Intracity ID Rounds”, a longstanding event with didactics and casebased learning with other programs in Los Angeles several times per year. Active academic collaboration with a large and productive adult infectious disease division at Harbor-UCLA is an integral part of our program. We work closely with many other clinical programs in Los Angeles, including an integrated relationship with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health.
Administrative: The candidate will direct the pediatric antimicrobial stewardship program. A member of the Division is the Hospital Epidemiologist and Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Harbor-UCLA.
Research: The candidate will also be a member of The Lundquist Institute (TLI, https://lundquist.org/), one of the largest independent biomedical research institutions in the US. TLI is on the Harbor campus and is an independent non-profit biomedical research organization with over $80 million of extramural funding awarded each year, serving >400 researchers with over 150 grants from federal sources. Most recently, our divisional research has received funding through AHRQ, PCORI, and the NIH CTSI with which TLI is a partner.
