IBD Physician Specialist – OVMC Sylmar


We are recruiting for a full-time physician specialist to provide comprehensive gastroenterology (GI) clinical services in the inpatient and ambulatory settings at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (OVMC).  Clinical responsibilities include referral triage (eConsult), patient assessment, and management of GI conditions. Specifically, this physician specialist should have a strong interest in providing care for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) but formal post-fellowship training in IBD is not required. This physician specialist should also be excited to take part in the academic training mission of our hospital as this position requires regular teaching and interactions with GI fellows, residents, and medical students. This physician specialist will integrate into the existing group of faculty and rotate taking inpatient call at OVMC (approximately 1:5 to 1:6). Academic appointment at UCLA will be provided for the successful candidate. This physician specialist will be responsible for performing general GI endoscopic procedures on both outpatients and inpatients, but ERCP/EUS training and skills are not required. GI procedures are performed in the procedure suite at OVMC.  This physician will maintain clinical privileges at OVMC.

OVMC is located in the city of Sylmar, which is a part of the San Fernando Valley. The population, as of 2009, is approximately 90,000 residents. The city’s neighboring cities are San Fernando and Santa Clarita. The Olive View hospital has been part of the neighborhood since 1920, when it initially served as a tuberculosis (TB) sanatorium.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned as necessary):

  • Ensure that the gastroenterology department provides optimal services; meet all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and comply with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center.  Additionally, this physician will comply with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the OVMC procedure suite.
  • Design, maintain, and coordinate with other patient care and administrative services for high quality, patient-centered gastroenterology and hepatology care.
  • Ensure safe, appropriate, cost-effective gastroenterology treatment for patients according to established policies, procedures and protocols.  Adhere to DHS/ACN expectations to provide cost-effective, appropriate, safe gastroenterology care, and maintain a medical staff-approved scope of service.
  • Participate in the DHS-wide eConsult enterprise, contribute to the gastroenterology and hepatology work groups as designated and serve as a specialty reviewer for OVMC.
  • Maintain privileges in moderate sedation in the OVMC procedure suite.
  • Adhere to all approved Los Angeles County policies and procedures.
  • Greet the public and answer the telephone in an effective, courteous manner.  Employ professional manners and tact in all interactions.
  • Promote self-development in learning new programs and applications and serve as a resource to other employees as directed.
  • Actively participate in various quality and process improvement initiatives as directed by administration.
  • Actively participate in all departmental meetings, facility wide meetings, and DHS/ACN meetings and/or committees as directed by administration.


As part of the faculty at OVMC, this physician specialist will be responsible for teaching medical students, residents, and GI fellows who rotate at Olive View from the UCLA Division of Digestive Diseases.

  • Medical Degree from an accredited medical school
  • Fellowship in Gastroenterology with Board Certification or Board Eligibility if recent graduate


Post-graduate clinical experience in gastroenterology necessary


California State Physician and Surgeon’s Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
