Physician Specialist – Emergency Medicine

Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (OVMC), a 355-bed public teaching hospital affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, invites applications for a full-time Physician Specialist in the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM). Reporting to the DEM Chief, the position will provide clinical care, vision, leadership, and strategic direction to achieve the department’s clinical, educational, and academic mission within a large urban academic safety-net hospital that is part of an integrated Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS). The candidate will hold an academic appointment at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. This highly collaborative environment supports a dynamic graduate medical education program with a rich history of training clinical, academic, and national thought leaders. Candidates must have a strong academic background with a track record of clinical excellence, leadership, collaboration, data-driven management, and innovation.

Essential duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supervision and bedside teaching of residents and students in the course of direct patient care in the ED
• Contribute to the academic mission (research, education, community service)
• Participate in ongoing quality improvement efforts, including assessing metrics of care and peer review
• Participate in the emergency medicine training program, including weekly educational conferences and interviews for residency applicants
• Collaborate with other services across the hospital to provide multidisciplinary approach for patients, as needed
• Serve on hospital-wide committees as representative of the Department of Emergency Medicine
• Approximately 25% time protected for administrative duties

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or Osteopathy
• Completed an ACGME-accredited EM residency program
• Board Certified/Prepared in Emergency Medicine
• Excellent clinical and teaching skills

• Experience working in government or non-profit environment serving a diverse, medically-underserved population
• Creative, forward-looking thinker
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative/team-oriented environment
• Fluency in English and Spanish
